‘I have nothing to prove to Bournemouth’, says Newcastle’s Atsu

Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu has said he ‘has nothing to prove to Bournemouth’ ahead of Saturday’s English Premier League fixture between the two sides.

The Ghana international made only two appearances at Dean Court during his loan from Chelsea in the 2015-16 season.

But the winger who has become an integral part of Rafael Benitez's plans said he was ‘unlucky’ at the Cherries but has since moved on from that phase of his career.

“I have nothing to prove to Bournemouth,” Atsu told club website.

“I was unlucky, I had a lot of injuries while I was at Bournemouth and the team was also doing well so it was difficult for the manager to change the squad.

“So the blame is not on anybody, that is how football is.

“I am just working hard now and trying to focus on Newcastle."

The Magpies have had an impressive start since their promotion to the topflight and currently sit ninth on the log but Atsu says they are not getting carried away while also reiterating his desire to get in amongst the goals and get more assists.

“I think we are working hard, the table for us is not important, we just try to focus on each and every game and try our best to win and also improve as a squad," he added.

“I am working hard for the team, I think I need to score more goals and create more chances for the other players but I keep working hard and try to build my confidence,” he concluded.
