Manchester City and Manchester United could contest another overseas derby next summer, as the International Champions Cup considers shelving plans to hold matches in China.
ICC organisers are concerned that Europe's top clubs will be without many of their biggest names following next summer's World Cup, and as a result they are weighing up whether to cancel the Asian section and condense the competition.
A final decision is yet to be taken, but City, who had been expecting to play a series of matches in the Far East, are now drawing up contingency plans.
They could choose to return to the United States, where they played three matches this summer, or remain in Europe.
