Newcastle United v Liverpool Betting: Reds' uncertain defence allows for goals galore

Newcastle United are aiming to make an immediate return to winning ways when they play host to Liverpool at St James' Park on Sunday.

Rafael Benitez's team saw a three-match winning run halted by Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend, and the Magpies will be determined to bounce back against Benitez's former employers.

The task facing the team from Tyneside, though, is a tough one and dabblebet offer 15/4 (4.75) that Newcastle chalk up a third successive home win when they line up against Jurgen Klopp's charges.

The Reds have been plagued by inconsistency throughout the campaign so far, but Liverpool enjoyed a thrilling 3-2 victory against Leicester City last weekend and the men from Merseyside will be hopeful that their victory at King Power Stadium provides a platform on which they can build in the Premier League; dabblebet make Liverpool their 8/11 (1.73) favourites to take all three points on Tyneside, while the same firm go 14/5 (3.80) that the match ends all square.

Liverpool have plenty of quality in the final third, with Mohamed Salah in fine form, while Philippe Coutinho scored his first goal of the season with a fabulous free-kick against the Foxes last weekend before netting again in midweek.

Indeed, Salah, Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino were named together in the starting line-up for the first time this season in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Spartak Moscow on Tuesday night and all four men could feature from the first whistle again on Tyneside, given that Mane's suspension has now expired.

Liverpool's defensive indiscipline, however, has come in for criticism regularly throughout the campaign; indeed, Klopp's charges have conceded at least two goals in four of their last six games and their inability to shut out the opposition must be a cause for concern for the former Borussia Dortmund boss.

Newcastle have scored twice in three of their four fixtures at St James' Park so far this season and Benitez's men will fancy their chances of putting the spotlight back on the Reds' defensive deficiences this weekend; dabblebet go 8/5 (2.60) that the home side grab the opening goal of the game, while the same firm go 16/5 (4.20) Benitez's men lead at half time against Liverpool.

There is, certainly, plenty of potential for a goal-laden game on Tyneside and dabblebet offer 4/6 (1.67) that there are more than two goals scored, while the same firm also go 4/6 (1.67) that there are goals at both ends.

Better value, though, could lie in backing at least four goals to be scored when the Reds hit the road; the selection would have landed comfortably in each of Liverpool's three Premier League away days so far this season and, at 8/5 (2.60), dabblebet's odds-against quote may provide value for punters once again ahead of Sunday's showdown.
