Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal: Player Ratings

Arsenal played out a dull 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge in a crunch London derby. The Gunners needed a positive result in this game and stopping the champions from scoring at their home turf is quite an achievement. Chelsea were brought down to 10 men in the closing stages with too little time for Arsene Wenger’s side to take advantage.

Arsenal showed great drive in the first half without their top superstars like Ozil and Sanchez. Here is how the players fared.

Petr Cech: 7/10

Did not put a foot wrong throughout the match. Collected every ball and was aware against his old club. The fact that he gets a 7 after being so solid, shows how good Arsenal’s defence was.

Laurent Koscielny: 7.5/10

Played very well without making too much fuss. Very good work rate for a 32 year old. Koscielny is our number one defender and he has to keep this kind of form going if Arsenal are to mount a serious title challenge after dropping 8 points in their first 5 games. Shook off Luiz’s weird and completely insane kick.

Shkodran Mustafi: 8/10

Kept Alvaro Morata in his pocket. Troubled by Eden Hazard later on but stood firm. The German had to be very composed throughout the game and so he was. Per Mertesacker will be proud. He was ruled offside after nailing one past Courtouis.

Nacho Monreal: 7/10

Great performance barring one or two occasions. He is looking better and better in the centre back role. Helps Kolasinac do the good work down the left.

Hector Bellerin: 6.5/10

He has improved a lot since going through a poor spell. The full back looked threatening on some occasions and was defensively decent. Booked for a bad foul.

Sead Kolasinac: 8/10

Played extremely well throughout the entire game. He was a menace for Chelsea and he made great impact every time he was on the ball. The tank has looked great so far and he was one of our better players at the Bridge. Booked.

Granit Xhaka: 7/10

A good display from the former Borussia Monchengladbach man. Missed with a long shot. Stayed calm and picked his passes well.

Aaron Ramsey: 8/10

Excellent display in the first half. Hit the bar. Arsenal winning the midfield battle against Chelsea is absolutely brilliant and it happened mainly because of his quiet but effective efforts.

Alex Iwobi: 6.5/10

Surprise starter. Did not disappoint but not very effective in the final third against a top defense. Had Arsenal lost this game, Wenger would have been crucified for his team selection.

Danny Welbeck: 7/10

Worked very hard but produced very little end product. Picked up a knock towards the end of the game. Welbeck and Iwobi lack the flair that Ozil or Alexis have but the England man did put in a spirited effort and ran after the ball. Ozil’s injury made his selection justifiable given his good form recently.

 Alexandre Lacazette: 5.5/10

We heard about him not performing in big games. We saw it today. For a striker who comes with the reputation of a world class goal poacher, he looked poor. Should have scored from Ramsey’s rebound. Lost the ball on numerous occassions- his worst performance in an Arsenal shirt.

Substitutes

Alexis Sanchez: 6.5/10

Replaced the disappointing Lacazette. Looked dangerous up front and tried hard but did not do much. No Alexis magic for today.

Olivier Giroud: 6/10

No super-sub heroics from him either. Came on for Welbeck and will want to start more games.

Mohamed Elneny: N/A

On for Iwobi as Wenger pushed for a draw.
