Pep Guardiola says there will be “internal meetings” at Manchester City to decide whether to move for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez in January, after potential injuries to Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus.

The club’s previous stance was that they would wait until the summer to get the Chilean on a free unless something drastic happens, and the question now will be whether the length of absences of their two attacking stars constitute that.

Guardiola confirmed that Jesus will likely be out for just over a month after going off in the first half of the 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace, but that they will not know De Bruyne’s situation until Monday, after he was carried off on a stretcher following a poor challenge from Jason Puncheon.

Guardiola was mostly evasive on the subject of Sanchez, but admitted it would be discussed.

“I don't know,” the Catalan said when asked. “He is a player for Arsenal and I think he is going to stay there.

“We will have internal meetings and see what is for the best, but he is an Arsenal player and I think he will be [after January].”
