Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool would not let him shut up shop like Manchester United
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was not amused with an especially inflammatory question that came his way in his latest press conference ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League clash against Slovenian side Maribor.
Klopp bemoaned the negative tactics deployed by Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho in last Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Anfield and was quick to suggest such defensive tactics would not be acceptable if they were being used by a Liverpool manager.
Yet after Klopp was informed of a comment from ex-Slovenia international turned media pundit Zlatko Zahovic suggesting he was a ‘fine coach who doesn’t win big titles’, the Liverpool boss offered up this response.
“It sounds like I am the charismatic, funny loser,” said a somewhat bemused Klopp. “Thank you for that. No comment.”
The Liverpool boss quickly moved on from that slightly embarrassing movement, as he suggested his side should draw confidence from his side’s displays in recent weeks, even though they head into their next match on the back of a run that has seen them win just once in eight matches.
“We are in a moment when we have to remind ourselves that it was a good performance because the result doesn’t show it. I don’t see a lack of confidence,” he added.
“We need to be confident, brave and concentrated against a good football playing team. We know this is an important moment in the group for us. We can be really focused on this one.
“Maribor are offensively really strong. They are creative and we need to be ready for this battle. It is easy to remember how hard we fought be to be in the Champions League and we have to make the most of it now.”
