Chelsea v Arsenal: Three matches which shaped their 2016/17 campaigns

Antonio Conte's Chelsea embarked on a 13-game winning run after defeat at the Emirates Stadium

Chelsea and Arsenal play at Wembley Stadium on Sunday in the FA Community Shield, the traditional season curtain-raiser.

Premier League champions Chelsea and FA Cup winners Arsenal played three times last term, in matches which shaped their seasons.

Here, Press Association Sport reflects on those games.

:: Arsenal 3 Chelsea 0, Emirates Stadium, Premier League (September 24, 2016)

Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil gave Arsenal a 3-0 lead after 30 minutes, a week before the 20th anniversary of the arrival of manager Arsene Wenger. But Chelsea's implosion was the catalyst for their season as Antonio Conte reverted to a 3-4-3 formation which prompted a 13-match winning run.

:: Chelsea 3 Arsenal 1, Stamford Bridge, Premier League (February 4, 2017)

Eden Hazard scored a stunning solo goal, while Marcos Alonso and Cesc Fabregas, against his old club, were also on target as Chelsea boosted their title hopes. Arsenal, who claimed a consolation through Olivier Giroud, were ruled out of the title reckoning and ultimately missed out on the Champions League places.

:: Arsenal 2 Chelsea 1, Wembley Stadium, FA Cup (May 27, 2017)

Arsenal won the FA Cup for a record 13th time and a seventh under manager Arsene Wenger with goals from Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey. Ramsey's winner came just a few minutes after Diego Costa had equalised. Four days later, speculation over the future of Wenger ended when it was announced he had signed a new two-year contract.
