Dele Alli focus

Dele Alli, left, gave West Ham plenty to think about

Dele Alli laid on two goals for Harry Kane as Tottenham survived a late comeback to win 3-2 away at West Ham.

Alli already has three goals for Spurs this season but he turned provider in this feisty derby at the London Stadium.

Here, Press Association Sport takes a close look at the youngster's performance.

ROLE

Mauricio Pochettino deployed Alli at the front of a midfield diamond for Tottenham, allowing him the freedom to support Kane and run beyond the striker looking for balls over the top. After Serge Aurier's red card reduced Spurs to 10 men in the second half, Alli dropped deeper into a midfield three.

GOALS

Alli came alive for each of Kane's first-half goals. First, he latched on to Eriksen's through-ball before picking out Kane's head with a driven cross and then four minutes later it was his chipped finish that Joe Hart parried, allowing Kane to slot into an empty net.

CHANCES

A through-ball from Moussa Sissoko put Alli into the penalty area early in the second period but a clumsy Winston Reid challenge snuffed out the chance. Alli was then set free on the counter-attack by Kane late on but the midfielder dallied and the opportunity was lost.

OVERALL

Alli has been slightly out of sorts in recent weeks and while he was not at his best here, the 21-year-old once again proved that he can make the difference in the final third. He posed a constant threat to the West Ham back-line and, together with Eriksen and Kane, will trouble many more defences this season.
