Eddie Howe tips Jordon Ibe to realise 'immense promise' this season

Jordon Ibe's, right, two assists turned Friday night's Brighton clash on its head

Eddie Howe has tipped Jordon Ibe to end his sticky Bournemouth start and realise his "immense promise" this season.

Super-sub Ibe's two assists turned Friday night's Brighton clash on its head as the Cherries edged home 2-1 for their first Premier League win of the season.

The 21-year-old teed up Andrew Surman then Jermain Defoe as Bournemouth ended their four-match losing streak.

Ibe has struggled under the weight of his club-record £15million signing from Liverpool in 2016 - but now Howe hopes the England Under-21 cap can finally hit his straps.

"It's a really, really good cameo of what he's all about," said Howe of Ibe's match-turning show on Friday night.

"He's an extremely talented lad, and he's different from anyone else we have.

"He showed some real final-third quality. That back heel was a moment of magic, and the second weighted pass for Jermain was so good.

"He's a player of immense promise, and I think we've often underestimated how young he is.

"It feels as though he's been around a long time. But he's still learning in lots of aspects and he's still improving."

Bournemouth avoided the ignominy of five-straight Premier League losses for the first time on Friday, rallying for a vital win at Dean Court.

Solly March capped a flowing move to put Brighton deservedly ahead, but Surman finished coolly to level, before Defoe rifled home the winner.

Defoe naturally grabbed immediate headlines, claiming his first Bournemouth goal in 16 years, but Howe also reserved special praise for Ibe.

And the Cherries boss believes another productive pre-season could now be the making of one of his most prized assets.

"Jordon's showing the attitude to improve, to come back a better player this season from last," said Howe.

"He's got used to our training and how we work, he's understanding more that demand we put on our players.

"Sometimes that can be a shock initially but Jordon's beginning to get it."
