Gabbiadini can't do it on his own, says Saints boss Pellegrino

A brace from the Italian against Newcastle last weekend was not enough to secure all three points as the game at St Mary's Stadium ended in a 2-2 draw.

Pellegrino accepts it will take a collective effort to pick up what would be a first victory since beating Crystal Palace away in mid-September.

"The offensive jobs are the responsibility for all of us because sometimes he is doing a lot of diagonal runs in behind with a lot of movement, but if we do not pass properly then it will be difficult for the striker," Pellegrino said.

"They need to have their team-mates arriving in the box also, it is not just about the striker."

Pellegrino wants his team to pick up from where they left off against Newcastle, having twice come from behind.

"At the end, the point was not good enough, because we need to covert these into victories, but if we think about the game, then the reaction of the team (to going behind twice) was positive," he said.

"What we have to learn is to start playing in this way from the beginning, this is the challenge and what we have to show next weekend."

Pellegrino, though, knows it will be a tough challenge to get the better of Tony Pulis' side, who have drawn four of their past six Premier League games.

"I expect West Brom to be a very organised team, working together and pressing when they think they are fresh enough to do it, also trying to play long and win the second ball, to be a threat to us from set-plays," Pellegrino said at a press conference, broadcast on the club's official website.

"This match will be difficult, but I feel every single week my team can learn about ourselves and how to approach these type of games."

Argentinian Pellegrino, who took over at Southampton in the summer, has nothing but respect for the efforts of Pulis, whose team opened the new campaign with back-to-back wins.

"He is a manager with a lot of experience. I remember when he was with Stoke and I was (playing) at Liverpool many years ago," Pellegrino said.

"He built a lot of teams from zero and transformed them to be really competitive.

"For me, he is a really clever manager.

"To be in the Premier League for a lot of years (as a manager), you need the talent and the personality to be there, so I respect him and his job."
