I'll give '100 per cent' while I'm Crystal Palace boss - Frank de Boer

An awful early blunder from Lee Chung-yong gifted Burnley a third-minute lead they never relinquished in a 1-0 victory, despite a much-improved Palace performance that gives De Boer hope better things are to come.

Record signing Chris Wood marked his home league debut by pouncing on Lee's glaring error and striking the ball first-time past a helpless Wayne Hennessey.

De Boer's position is set to come under further scrutiny this week but the Dutchman insisted his sole focus remains getting his side's beleaguered campaign up and running.

De Boer said: "I am just focusing on what I can control and so are my staff and my players. (The future) is for other people to decide but while I'm the manager of Crystal Palace I will give 100 per cent."

On another day De Boer could have been toasting a morale-boosting first win after a series of missed chances, including those falling to Christian Benteke and Scott Dann late on.

But De Boer admitted: "We have to reward ourselves and we didn't do that today. I am disappointed about the result but I am not disappointed about how we played.

"I think this is the starting point, because usually if you create that many chances against any opponent you will get what you deserve, and today we didn't.

"But we have to look in the mirror and be responsible that you have to take the chances, and you get punished when you don't.

"But if you look all over at how we showed spirit, I think we were quite dynamic. What we showed today gives us a lot of hope for the future."

Burnley boss Sean Dyche insisted he had no time to feel sympathy for De Boer and instead reflected on the way his side fought for their first home points of the campaign.

Dyche said: "I don't think any manager wants sympathy (but) I thought they were the better side and they deserved something from the game today.

"It is fair to be honest and I thought they were the better side. I told him so (but) I don't feel sorry for anyone in the position - we all know the pitfalls."

Dyche confirmed first-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton had suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder in a bad fall in the first half.
