Republic of Ireland assistant boss Roy Keane doesn't think new recruit Scott Hogan will be idolising him after they spend the next week together.
Hogan was lost for words when he met Keane as he boarded the plane to join up with the Republic squad for the first time since receiving his Irish passport, for which he qualifies through his father.
"I was a bit star-struck, to be honest with you, but you get over it. Well, sort of, you do," Hogan revealed yesterday.
Speaking today, Keane said he didn't believe the Aston Villa striker would be in awe of him for much longer.
"He was just saying what he was saying... listen, that will soon change," he said.
"A week working with me will soon change his tune, he'll think, 'I wish I never met him'. That's what most people say after a week.
"It's nice to have him involved but the fact he's a United fan is irrelevant.
"He's now an Irish player, we're glad to have him on board. He's a really good player. We've watched him over the last number of years.
"He's having a difficult spell at the moment with Villa but he's a goalscorer, he's a poacher and we're glad to have him involved.
"He seems a nice enough kid.
"There is no need to make a story out of the fact that he's a United fan and he might have thought I was a decent player."
Asked if it makes him feel old to be working with a player that grew up watching him, he said with a smile; 'Yeah, yeah it does."
