Jose Mourinho wants a pay increase if he is to extend his current contract with Manchester United, according to reports.

The Red Devils boss has overhauled the squad he inherited from Louis van Gaal back in the summer of 2016, with the club now in contention for their first Premier League title since Alex Ferguson departed in 2013.

Man United are currently two points off rivals Manchester City at the top of the table, and have also won two games from two in the Champions League.

According to The Guardian, Mourinho is open to staying on at the club when his initial three-year deal runs out in the summer of 2019, but wants a pay increase after going some way to restoring Man United to their former glory.

In his first season in charge, Mourinho led his team to a fifth place finish in the Premier League but also won two trophies, the League Cup and the Europa League.
