Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has handed both his club and the Belgian national team a boost after a scan dispelled fears he had sustained ankle ligament damage.
Lukaku sustained the injury in Saturday's 4-0 win against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, as he continued his stunning scoring form that has seen him fire seven Premier League goals for United in his first seven games for the club.
The £75m marksman did not train with his Belgian team-mates on Monday as he underwent medical checks, with confirmation of the damage revealed in a statement from the Belgium FA.
"Romelu Lukaku underwent an MRI scan but no fracture or structural damage has been diagnosed.
"The next days he will follow an individual training program. It is however too early to state that he won't be match fit for the Bosnia and/or Cyprus game."
The news will be a big boost to United manager Jose Mourinho, who admitted last week that he does not have the option to hand Lukaku a break until Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns to full fitness as he battles back from a knee injury.
Those comments may not have been welcomed by United forwards Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, who have both stated their eagerness to be given a chance in a central striking role over the last couple of years.
Yet it seems Mourinho is determined to start every game he can with Lukaku as his lead forward and he will hope Belgium manager Roberto Martinez will be cautious with his lead striker ahead of United's crucial Premier League game against Liverpool at Anfield on October 14th.
