WATCH - 'It was Playstation football' - Jose Mourinho slams his players after Champions League win

Goals from Maouane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford secured a comfortable victory for United at Old Trafford, but the demanding Mourinho admitted he was expecting more as he hinted his players played with a little too much confidence.

“We were playing fantasy football, Playstation football, flicks” declared Mourinho. “I don't like it. We gambled a little bit, but football is football and you have to respect your opponent.

“I don't know if goal difference will play a part. We lost position, our shape, we lost balls in easy situations. I didn't like it, the players relaxed too much.

“Three points are important at home. Until 2-0 we were very stable, we played with confidence.

“After 2-0 everything changed, we stopped playing seriously and stopped making right decisions. We could have put ourselves in trouble.”

Mourinho reserved special praise for substitute Fellaini, who turned in an all-action performance that would have silenced some of his critics at United.

“I keep saying the same about Fellaini. He is a player with special qualities and he gives me multiple areas of action. He is one of my most important players,” added Mourinho.

Meanwhile, striker Romelu Lukaku insisted his side needed to respond after they dropped their first points of the Premier League season against Stoke on Saturday.

“After a slip up at Stoke we needed to bounce back with a win,” stated the Belgian, who has now scored five goals in six games for United since his big money move from Everton.

“The football wasn't great but we won. Defensively we are not conceding, it is a work in progress."

United's win was one of a number of large scorelines around Europe on first night of the Champions League group stage, with Paris St Germain, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Barcelona securing comprehensive wins.

Asked if smaller sides were getting weaker of the big teams more powerful, Mourinho retorted: "I think the Champions League for these teams that are you speaking (about) and for the Real Madrids, and the Barcelonas, and Bayerns, I think the Champions League starts in February.

"Now is just the warming up and in February when us English teams are trying to survive after the winter period, they are fresh and ready after this warm-up.

"For them, this is a warm-up. I think we are in the second level and the second level is let's qualify, let's make the points to qualify for the knockout phase.

"When you do that, if you do that, let's enjoy to play against the big guys."
