Jose Mourinho has claimed that Paris Saint-Germain are not paying too much after they gave the green light to a €222m move to sign Barcelona superstar Neymar.

The biggest transfer in football history looks set to be confirmed imminently after Barcelona confirmed Neymar was leaving, with the game shaken by a transfer that seemed impossible just a few weeks ago.

Yet Mourinho insists the Neymar move is a sign of things to come, as he stated his club's decision to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus for what was a world record £89m fee looks like a bargain.

"When we paid that amount for Paul I said that it was not expensive," Mourinho said after United's 2-1 friendly victory over Sampdoria in Dublin.

"Expensive are the ones who get into a certain level without a certain quality.

"I think that Neymar is the same (as Pogba). I don't think he is expensive. For £200m I don't think he is expensive.

"I think he is expensive (in) the fact that now you are going to have more players at £100m, you are going have more players at £80m and more players at £60m and I think that's the problem.

"Neymar is one of the best players in the world, commercially he is very strong and for sure Paris St Germain thought about it.

"So I think the problem is not Neymar, I think the problem is the consequences of Neymar."

Meanwhile, Mourinho offered up lavish praise for new signing Nemanja Matic after his first start for United in Dublin.

"He needs time but (his) experience, intelligence, a genius in the way he thinks - he thinks football," Mourinho said.

"We will help him to be ready sooner rather than later."

The United boss also offered up views on his side's transfer ambitions in the final month of the window, as he insisted he was only interested in signing one more player.

"To get three out of four players (he wanted) I thank the club for that, I will be happier if they get me four of four but they did a great effort for me," he added.
