Manchester United will be instantly installed as Premier League title favourites if they are successful in their bid to sign Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, according to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.

United boss Jose Mourinho gave his biggest hint yet that he would be at the front of the queue if Real Madrid decide to make their Welsh winger available after months of speculation linking him with a move away from the Bernabeu.

While Bale and his agent have made it clear he is happy in the Spanish capital, Real Madrid's possible signing of Monaco teenager Kylian Mbappe has fuelled rumours that the reigning European champions may look to off-load some of their star name.

That inspired Mourinho to cheekily suggest he would sign Bale if presented with the opportunity, as he made these comments on the eve of United's UEFA Super Cup game against Real Madrid.

"If he is not in the club’s plans, that with the arrival of another player would mean he was on his way out, I will try to be waiting for him on the other side and fight with other coaches that would want him on their team," stated Mourinho.

Now Redknapp has suggested a potential £90m move for Bale to United would see the Old Trafford giants installed as Premier League title favourites.

"If it did (happen) I think you should just give Manchester United the trophy now," Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

"It won't be to do with anyone else because Gareth Bale is that good. He would rip the Premier League apart if he came here.

"I think the way that he plays - in that team - he would be sensational. There are only a few players that can do what he can. He is made for the Premier League."
