Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is set to be out for the next ‘four to six weeks’ with the hamstring injury he picked up in Tuesday’s Champions League win against FC Basel.

Pogba captained United in their first Champions League game for two seasons, but limped off in the first half with an injury that looked to set to rule him out for an extended period.

Now it has been confirmed that the France midfielder will be absent for at least a month, which will leave him as a major doubt to be fit for the crucial clash against Liverpool at Anfield on October 14th.

“I know from experience it's a muscular injury,” said Mourinho on Tuesday night. “In my experience, muscular injury stops you from playing for a few weeks, I think.

“Squads are for this, squads are for injuries, squads are for suspensions. We don't cry with injuries. So if no Paul for Sunday against Everton, we have (Ander) Herrera, we have (Michael) Carrick, we have (Marouane) Fellaini and we have (Nemanja) Matic.”

Pogba has started the season in fine fashion for United, with this injury coming at a bad moment for Mourinho’s team as they look to retain their position at the top of the Premier League.
