Wayne Rooney's week goes from bad to worse with nasty eye injury following elbow to the face

Everton striker Wayne Rooney saw his miserable week take a turn for the worse as he suffered a nasty eye injury in the first half of his side’s Premier League game against Bournemouth.
Rooney was convinced he should have been awarded a penalty after he was elbowed in the face by Bournemouth skipper Simon Francis, with the former England captain venting his anger in the direction of referee Martin Atkinson as his eye dripped with blood.
Instead of getting the spot kick he demanded, Rooney was invited to leave the field to get treatment on the wound, with TV replays suggesting he was unfortunate not to get a penalty as compensation for his pain.
The injury comes at the end of a week that saw Rooney plead guilty to drink driving charges in court, with a two year driving ban and a hefty community service sentence handed down to the 31-year-old forward.
