Sporting Lisbon defender Ezequiel Schelotto joins Brighton in three-year deal

Brighton manager Chris Hughton has been busy on deadline day

Brighton have completed the signing of defender Ezequiel Schelotto from Sporting Lisbon for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old former Inter Milan right-back has agreed a three-year deal with the Seagulls.

Manager Chris Hughton said: "We are delighted that Ezequiel is joining us.

"He has made nearly 190 appearances in the top flight in Italy and Portugal and has played in the Champions League, and is the type of experienced player we want to add to the squad.

"He can also play as a more attacking wing-back and so gives us some good options in defence."

Although born in Argentina, Schelotto holds Italian citizenship and will not require a work permit to play in the Premier League.

He has one senior cap for Italy which came in a 2-1 defeat by England in Berne in 2012.

The Seagulls have also signed goalkeeper Tim Krul on a season-long loan deal from Newcastle.

The 29-year-old will challenge Mathew Ryan and Niki Maenpaa for the gloves at the Amex.

Hughton added: "I know Tim from my time at Newcastle and he is an excellent professional that has a vast amount of experience at both club and international level.

"He's played an extensive amount of games in the Premier League, as well as playing in the Europa League and his experience will also help benefit the other keepers in the squad."
