Gylfi Sigurdsson will undergo a medical at Everton on Wednesday after Ronald Koeman’s side finally agreed a £45m fee with Swansea for the Icelandic international.

Everton had previously seen two bids rejected for the former Tottenham midfielder but have now agreed a five-year deal that will smash their transfer record.

Sigurdsson was left out of Swansea’s squad for last weekend’s game with Southampton in the expectation a fee would be agreed for him to leave the club three years after rejoining them from Tottenham.

And Everton have now agreed to pay £40m upfront for the 27 year old as well as possible add-ons of up to £5m, with Sigurdsson expected to be available for Monday’s game with Manchester City.

The deal will take Everton’s summer spending to £131m after the signings of Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Davy Klaasen, with Wayne Rooney also joining on a free transfer.
