Chris Hughton delivered on his promise to allow Richie Towell leave Brighton and Hove Albion on loan, as the former Dundalk midfielder joined League One outfit Rotherham United.

Since moving cross-channel in January 2016, the Dubliner has failed to make an impact, not helped by injuries, and a change of scene was the agreed plan between player and manager.

"Richie wants to play regularly and this is an ideal chance," said Hughton.

One player on the move permanently is Marc Wilson who last night made the switch from Bournemouth to Sunderland.

In other deadline day business, Preston striker Eoin Doyle linked up with Jack Byrne at Oldham by sealing a loan move until January. Also making a temporary switch from the Championship was Limerick native Damien McCrory, who left Burton for Portsmouth.
