Watford v Brighton - Story of the match

Watford's Miguel Britos has been sent off three times in 20 Premier League matches

Brighton were twice denied by the woodwork as they picked up their first ever Premier League point with a goalless draw at 10-man Watford.

Miguel Britos' 24th-minute dismissal was the main talking point of the game, with the Watford defender sent off for a dangerous, studs-up challenge on Anthony Knockaert.

Albion were unable to turn their numerical advantage into three points, however, with Knockaert curling against the left upright midway through the first half, before Watford defender Christian Kabasele diverted the ball onto the same post before the break.

TWEET OF THE MATCH

"A red card for Watford's Britos for the most horrendous tackle" - Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) is less than impressed with the defender's challenge.

STAR MAN - Anthony Knockaert

It was the Frenchman's first league start of the season and he tormented the Watford defence - and supporters - for most of the afternoon. He was unlucky to be denied by a post in the first half, tempted the tackle which saw Britos sent off and provided the creativity Brighton will need to avoid relegation.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

Britos' 24th-minute horror tackle changed the game. The Uruguayan defender was deservedly dismissed by referee Graham Scott after hacking down Knockaert with a shocking studs-up challenge on Albion's right winger. Brighton, ultimately, were unable to turn the advantage into three points, but the incident certainly disrupted Watford's tactics.

VIEW FROM THE BENCH

It was an incredibly frustrating afternoon for both bosses. Marco Silva will be left to bemoan the early dismissal of Britos, which severely reduced the Hornets' chances of making it seven points from three games. Chris Hughton, on the other hand, will be pleased to see Brighton pick up their first Premier League point, but it should have been more and they are still searching for their first goal.
