Wayne Rooney focus

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman had expressed his disappointment at last week's incident and said the matter would be dealt with internally "at the appropriate time".

He also indicated prior to the Premier League clash with Tottenham that Rooney would feature in the game, and subsequently included him in the starting line-up.

Here, Press Association Sport assesses how the 31-year-old forward fared as Everton were beaten 3-0 by Spurs at Goodison Park.

BODY LANGUAGE

Rooney cut a frustrated figure in the early stages of the match - there were some boos and jeers from the away section for him to endure, while he seemed particularly unhappy about a couple of challenges that did not result in free-kicks, protesting to referee Graham Scott - and little of what followed will have done much to cheer the former England captain up.

CREATIVITY

Rooney was part of a decent Everton move in the sixth minute as he combined with Cuco Martina, whose delivery was fired wide by Sandro Martinez. In the 21st minute he sent a cross into the box that no-one was there to make use of, and around the half-hour mark he teed up Sandro in the area only for the Spaniard to see his shot blocked by Toby Alderweireld.

FINISHING

In a game where the chances were being carved out by Tottenham almost throughout, opportunities very rarely fell to Rooney. A few times he was unsuccessful as he tried to get his head on the end of crosses in the danger zone, and he completely missed the ball with an attempt at a shot late in the second half.

OVERALL

Not the worst player in Everton's poor team performance, but ultimately failed to make a meaningful, positive impact when he would have dearly loved to, fading more and more as the game went on and picking up a booking in the final few minutes for a foul on Dele Alli.
