'Manchester City buy full-backs for the price of strikers,' bemoans Mourinho

Jose Mourinho claimed Manchester United have to spend more in order to compete with Premier League leaders Manchester City after seeing his side need two goals from substitute Jesse Lingard to salvage a draw.
When asked whether such a gap is acceptable at a 'big club' like United, Mourinho admitted his side remain some way off elite-level and said that he requires more money to challenge City, who "buy full-backs for the price of strikers".
"I know what a big club is," he said. "One thing is a big club and another thing is a big football team. They are different things. We are in the second year of trying to rebuild a football team that is not one of the best teams in the world.
"When you speak about responsibilities to win the Premier League, Tottenham doesn't have that because they don't have a history of winning the Premier League? Chelsea doesn't have it? Arsenal doesn't have it? Manchester City buy full-backs for the price of strikers."
Mourinho has spent £286m in the transfer market since his appointment at Old Trafford in the summer of 2016, but when he looks at how City spent around £128m on Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker and Danilo alone last summer.
"The price for the big clubs is different. The big historical clubs, they are normally punished in the market for their history," he said.
