Aston Villa CHairman Dr Tony Xia has played down reports linking the Championship club with a move for out-of-favour Hammer Robert Snodgrass.

Despite moving to West Ham just seven months ago, when switching from Hull in an eye-opening £10million move, the Scottish internation is already surplus to requirements at the Olympic Stadium.

However shifting the 29-year-old has proved rather more difficult in persuading him to sign back in January.

And whilst Villa were reported to have expressed an interest in taking Snodgrass earlier in the transfer window, such a move materialising now would appear extremely unlikely according to comments made by Xia on social media.

Speaking in response to a question on twitter from a supporter, Xia admitted that there were no plans to sign Snodgrass imminently. When asked whether the story was just a rumour, Xia simply replied "yes".

And in response to another queston asking about Snodgrass and fellow purported target Jordan Rhodes, he added: "Both were never on our radar. They were not on our list - completely made up rumours."
