New owners (partners) are not likely going to be selling their best player to us to kick off their new era.

Perhaps.......though it certainly goes some way to explaining why they reacted with such outrage to their biggest asset declaring he wanted to play elsewhere.......

And a specific somewhere else no less..........but only after speaking to the world's most charismatic manager ;)

That sh*t alone could've knocked £20m-£30m off the value of the playing staff......

Not sure about that, remember when Kenny D came here in his second spell Torres was gone before kicking a ball for him..

He did 'kick a ball' under Kenny

Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, 26, is more likely to join Chelsea or Manchester City than Liverpool, but the Saints will demand a fee of more than £70m. (Yahoo)

You do realize we aren't going to bid right? FSG made their apology, they aren't going to go back on it.

Are you not confident on the owner then?

      I'm surprised.

Just answer the question and stop deflecting.

Do you think the owners will sanction a high bid for a player we allegedly want.

Keep seeing reports saying we will only make an offer if Saints look as though they are going to be inclined to sell.
Well, seeing as they don't want to sell him, they aren't going to welcome any bids are they. That's why we have to go and make them an offer they can't refuse. Nobody ever wants to sell their star players but teams don't wait around in the hope the club suddenly changes their stance on that, they get on and make an opening offer, which is what we done with Leipzig and Keita so why not Southampton. If everything is done properly then they will have no reason to report us for making an offer.
Instead we are sat around waiting for Chelsea to come in and snap him up.

Yes I do, they would have for VVD before Klopp fu**ed that up and they would have for Keita if RB Leipzig were willing to sell. oh and yes they did for Salah

I'm baffled why we don't bid, really baffled, so what if they are pissed off at us, waving money under the nose of someone always has an amazing effect of changing opinions. ;-)

i agree so why is it only the owners who get all the blame when they have shown themselves willing to stump up the cash this summer.

Because the owners are the ones that decide the budget and they are the ones that appointed someone with no experience to be in charge of transfers dueing arguably one of the most important periods in our recent history.

No, including us, that should tell you something. FSG were all too happy to issue that apology. They couldn't get it out quick enough. It may has well have read "Thank God we didn't not have to end up actually bidding and embarrassing ourselves when we get outbid by our rivals again"

Klopp didn't f**k it up, meeting players goes on all the time.. VVD spoke to Arsenal, City and Chelsea too, and was convinced by Klopp that here was where he wanted to be.

If you dont think there's more to it you're gullible mate.

4 managers under fsg and we constantly F**k up transfers year in year out.. Everything has changed in the time fsg have been here in terms of managers, TC etc etc.. But but we still f**k transfer summers up..

      The one constant?

But they have zero blame eh?

i agree they fu**ed up appointing Edwards, but that's their only mistake and if you really consider £70 million for one player inadequate then you are living in cloud cuckoo land. they have made funds available others have failed to make signings.
