ANDRE Gray has declared he is ‘happy and settled’ at Burnley after West Ham were linked with a move for the Clarets top scorer.

Gray netted his sixth goal of the season in the FA Cup third round replay win over Sunderland at Turf Moor on Tuesday and afterwards said he couldn’t ‘be in a better position’ than he is with Burnley at the moment.

The Hammers were linked with a £15million move for last season’s Championship top scorer over the weekend, but Gray said: “I’m happy. We’re 10th in the league and I’m playing football and scoring goals. I don’t think I could be in a better position.

“It’s just what happens. If I didn’t score that hat-trick the other week then you might not hear my name. That’s just the way that football works I suppose.

“It’s always good to hear your name mentioned in the right way but I’m happy here and I’m settled here. We’re 10th in the league and flying high. It’s just part and parcel of football.”

Gray struck his sixth goal of the campaign just three minutes after coming off the bench as a much-changed Burnley booked a fourth round date against Bristol City at Turf Moor.

“It’s a good habit. I want to score goals in every game that I play,” said Gray.

“I wanted to come on, kill the game, seal it for us, and I managed to do that.”

Burnley are now a home win over Championship strugglers Bristol City away from a first trip to the fifth round of the FA Cup since 2010/11. They have only reached that stage twice in the last 11 seasons.

But Gray can remember being determined to cause an upset when he was with the lower league outsiders, and he will remember that desire now it’s Burnley that are there to be shot at.

“It’s another home game for us; a good game on a Saturday,” Gray said of the clash with the Robins on January 28.

“We’ve got the Tuesday game after that (against Leicester City). It’s another game to keep this run going and we won’t complain because we’re fit enough to do it. It’s another game to look forward to.

“I remember being in a team that was looking forward to playing a Premier League team, hoping you get a good draw.

“Now we’re that team that people are looking forward to playing against. It’s good to look back and remember that feeling.”

Meanwhile the Lancashire Telegraph understands Burnley have not submitted a bid for Barnsley centre back Marc Roberts, despite reports suggesting the Clarets were close to tying up a £3.5million deal for the 26-year-old.

Sean Dyche already has four senior central defenders in his squad, with Kevin Long set to be out for just a few weeks following a minor operation on his knee, so reinforcements in that area are not a priority this month and a move for Roberts is not on the agenda.
