DERRICK Williams and Ryan Nyambe both picked up knocks in Rovers’ Checkatrade Trophy win over Stoke City Under-21s.

But boss Tony Mowbray is hoping the international break will provide the pair with time to return to full fitness.

Williams, the only player to start the 4-1 win over MK Dons and the Trophy tie, limped off just before half-time.

Nyambe, who partnered Williams in the centre of defence, suffered a twisted ankle in what was his first game back after suffering with a sore knee.

But with no league game until September 9 at Rochdale, because of the international break, Mowbray is hoping that being cautious with the pair should see them back as soon as possible.

He said: “We picked up a couple of knocks which is really disappointing.

“We made 10 changes and then Derrick didn’t even make it 45 minutes.

“I think that just shows the intensity in which they have been playing the last few weeks.

“That was maybe just a step too far – hopefully it’s nothing too serious and it’s just a niggle.

“Ryan came off at half-time with a slightly twisted ankle, we didn’t want to take any chances with him.”
