STEVEN Defour looks set to win his fitness battle to face Southampton this weekend.

The Clarets midfielder was withdrawn with a tight groin against Newcastle on Monday night but Sean Dyche said the Belgian had 'looked good' in his recovery session.

Defour has been a key man for Burnley this season and he looks likely to be available for the trip to the South Coast on Saturday.

Chris Wood could also return for the Clarets. The New Zealand striker missed the win over the Magpies with a hamstring injury but he could be in contention to face the Saints.

"Woody has a chance. We have been careful with that one. We’ll make a decision tomorrow, he was out on the grass with us today," Dyche said of his striker.

"Steven Defour looked good on recovery today, probably due to his experience because he knows his body. It’s settled down. So he comes back into the thinking for the weekend."
