Alexis Sanchez is putting in extra work on his own time as he tries to prove his fitness to Arsenal in time for Sunday’s Community Shield match-up with Chelsea.

The Chile forward returned to training with Arsenal on Tuesday mere hours after he had touched down in London.

His return had been delayed for Sunday after a bout of flu and that had led to speculation that Sanchez might struggle to even make the season opener but he is evidently doing all he can to be available as soon as possible.

Soon after returning from training at London Colney Sanchez posted videos on his Instagram account that showed him recovering from further fitness work.

Sanchez’s future has become no clearer since his return to London, with the 28-year-old yet to respond to Arsenal’s offer of a new £300,000-a-week contract. His current terms are due to expire at the end of the coming season.

However Arsenal are insistent that they will not sell him this summer, even if that means losing him on a free next year. Manchester City appear to be the leading contenders for Sanchez’s signature, a worrying reality for the Gunners were the player to leave them with no choice but to cash in.

If that situation were to arise Arsenal would prefer to sell Sanchez to a European club but Bayern Munich have withdrawn – citing the Chilean’s wage demands – whilst interest from Paris Saint Germain has cooled as they move closer to a £198million deal for Neymar.
