Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has insisted he is calm about the "rumours" that have linked Eric Dier, to Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho is on the hunt for central midfield reinforcements, with newly appointed captain Michael Carrick recently having turned 36 and therefore be unlikely to be able to play every week.

Dier is understood to be interested in a move to United, the team he supported as a boy, where he would expect to earn significantly more money than at Spurs.

And when asked about the England international in the build-up to Spurs' 3-0 International Champions Cup defeat to Tottenham, Pochettino admitted the reported interest from United shows just how good Dier is.

"I think it's a good thing for us that many clubs are talking about our players," Pochettino told reporters at a press conference in Nashville.

"It means that we have good players in the squad. It's different in the reality. Today there's a lot of rumour in the media, a lot of stuff and things that happen.

"But it's rumour, it's nothing clear."

When pressed on whether Dier would remain a Tottenham player, the 45-year old manager remained vague.

"It’s another rumour. Many many rumours," he added. "I try to be honest always and today it’s so calm and Dier is our player.

"I think he’s an important player for us and it’s not the idea to sell him."
