Alex Iwobi believes that Arsenal may not have lost to Manchester City on Sunday had club-record signing Alexandre Lacazatte started the game at the Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger opted to leave Lacazette out of his starting line-up for the match against the league leaders, and instead decided on going with Alexis Sanchez up front and Iwobi and Mesut Ozil in support of the Chilean.

The move backfired as Arsenal failed to create enough goalscoring chances before Wenger was forced to bring Lacazette on in the 56th minute with City winning 2-0.

The France striker went on to score a fine goal just nine minutes later, although Arsenal still lost the clash 3-1 which leaves them 12 points adrift of City in the title race.

Iwobi insists that Wenger set the team up in the right way, but concedes that Lacazette cuold have made the difference had he been included in the Arsenal manager's starting line-up.

"We had an extra attacking player going forward but at the end of the day we set up very well to play against City and we were just unfortunate," Iwobi told Arsenal's official website.

"Maybe if he’d started on the wing it would have been different, but it is what it is."
