Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata and his Manchester United counterpart Romelu Lukaku will go head to head for August’s Premier League Player of the Month award.

Former Everton striker Lukaku had been top of Antonio Conte’s target list at the start of the summer, however, the Italian had to turn to Morata after the Belgian made a surprise move to Old Trafford.

The pair have been nominated alongside Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah as well as Phil Jones, Henrinkh Mkhitaryan and Huddersfield’s Jonas Lossl.

Both have made a scoring start to the season at their respective new clubs, with Morata scoring twice and setting up another two in three outings for Conte’s side and Lukaku bagging three in as many games for Jose Mourinho.

As well as having three players in the running for the award, Mourinho has been nominated for the Manager of the Month accolade alongside Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, David Wagner and Tony Pulis.
