Andrea Pirlo has refused to rule out joining Chelsea's coaching staff but is yet to decide his next move following his decision to retire.

The Italian legend will hang up his boots at the end of the current Major League Soccer season at the age of 38, but has not thought about his future beyond then.

While there is speculation about a reunion with Conte, who he worked under at Juventus and Italy, the Italian refused to completely dispel the idea.

“An assistant to Conte? People are saying that. I have my ideas but I need time to decide," he told Gazetta dello Sport.

“My future, I don’t know yet. I will return to Italy in December.”

The former AC Milan, Juventus and Italy star confirmed his retirement on Sunday after spending just over two years with New York City FC.

He enjoyed a glittering career winning six Serie A titles, two Champions Leagues and a World Cup with Azzurri but has decided to call it a day.

He added: “At age 38, it’s just right to give kids room. No I’m not angry.

“You just realise that the time has come. Every day you have physical problems, you cannot train as you like because you always have some stuff. At my age, that’s enough. It’s not that you can go on forever to 50. I’ll do something else.”
