Shkodran Mustafi’s future remains uncertain with talks on-going over a move to Inter Milan.

It is understood that Arsenal are keen to sell Mustafi barely a year after signing the defender for £35m from Valencia if they can recoup that outlay.

Reports in Italy claim Inter have offered £4.6m as a loan fee to take him this season with an option to complete a £23m move next summer. However, the Gunners would prefer a straight permanent sale now rather than the uncertainty of whether Inter will take Mustafi again in 12 months’ time.

The 25-year-old Germany international was left on the bench during Sunday’s 4-0 defeat at Liverpool, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger instead opting to field 21-year-old Rob Holding and left-back Nacho Monreal in central defence.

Mustafi’s future has been linked to an enquiry Arsenal made yesterday for West Brom defender Jonny Evans but as of this morning, no formal bid had been tabled for the 29-year-old, who is also wanted by Manchester City.
