Arsenal legend Ian Wright has admitted he is "jealous and afraid" of Tottenham following their victory over Real Madrid.

Spurs outclassed the European champions as they cruised to a 3-1 victory at Wembley on Wednesday to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The triumph was Tottenham's greatest since Mauricio Pochettino's arrival in 2014 marked the beginning of their march towards Europe's top table.

And the Spurs boss said afterwards his side now "belong" among the continent's elite clubs.

But it was a concerning evening for Wright, who won two Premier League titles and three domestic cups during seven years with Tottenham's bitter rivals Arsenal in the 1990s.

"I've always been afraid of the Tottenham emergence, because it's been coming," Wright told BBC 5live.

"Since Pochettino's got there it's been steadily rising and rising and the only thing you feel that is going to hold Tottenham back is 'will Daniel Levy pay the players the kind of money that is going to keep them there?'. That's all it's going to come down to."

Dele Alli scored twice before Christian Eriksen added a third and Tottenham could have been further in front before Cristiano Ronaldo's late, consolation goal.

Wright added: "This is a great manager with great, young, ambitious players. They're not fly by night players, they look like they're the real deal. [Wednesday's] result against Real Madrid, they hammered them. And it's a team that's still got a lot more to give," Wright added.

"It's something as an Arsenal man, sitting here, it's a frightening prospect seeing their progression, it really is. And jealousy does come into it."
