Arsenal’s record signing Alexandre Lacazette not ready to play 90 minutes, claims Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger has urged Alexandre Lacazette to remain patient after finding himself dropping in and out of the Arsenal side.

The Gunners’ £53million record signing has found himself in and out of the side since his arrival from Lyon during the summer and was substituted just over an hour into Arsenal’s 0-0 draw at Chelsea, before team-mates Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi.

Lacazette has also missed the starting lineup for games against Liverpool and Cologne and has not completed 90 minutes since the opening day win over Leicester.

Whilst Wenger was impressed with Lacazette’s display in the Stamford Bridge draw he warned the France international that no-one can be guaranteed 90 minutes when Arsenal have such a formidable collection of attacking options.

“I felt Lacazette had a very good first half, he worked hard for the team and was very disciplined,” Wenger said.

“It takes him some time to maintain that intensity for 90 minutes.

“Don’t forget I have [Theo] Walcott, [Olivier] Giroud and [Alexis] Sanchez on the bench. After 65 minutes in a game of that intensity it’s normal that you bring fresh legs on.

“Does he understand that? I never ask any striker to understand that he has to make room for someone else.

“You never can do that.”
