Arsenal target Leon Goretzka intends to make a decision on his future at Schalke next month.

The German international midfielder’s contract at Schalke expires at the end of the season and the Gunners are among several European giants who have placed Goretzka firmly on their radar.

Juventus have declared their interest in the 22-year-old, scorer of four goals in 11 Bundesliga appearances this season, whilst Liverpool, Barcelona and Manchester United have also been linked with moves.

Schalke have not given up hope of convincing Gortezka to sign a new deal whilst the player himself insists he is still weighing up his next steps.

“I have to find out for myself what the next step should be,” Gortezka told reporters.

“I have to consider a million things. I am a person who is very meticulous in such decisions. I play through all the scenarios. So I need time.

“There doesn’t exist a deadline, but I think we are in the final phase. The final decision will be made in January.”

Goretzka will be free to negotiate a contract with clubs outside the Bundesliga from January 1, meaning Schalke may opt to cash in during the mid-season transfer window if they believe they cannot convince him to sign an extension.
