Manchester United won an enthralling clash with Arsenal with Jesse Lingard clinical, David De Gea peerless and Paul Pogbadominant and then dismissed.

Antonio Valencia and Lingard punched early defensive mistakes by Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi to give the visitors a commanding lead with just 11 minutes on the clock.

De Gea made save after save after save, even off his own players, before Alexandre Lacazette netted just after the break but Lingard struck on the counter to settle the game before Pogba's late red card.

TOP FIVE

Ander Herrera has hailed Manchester United team-mate Marcos Rojo as one of the “top five” central defenders in the world.

Rojo was a regular in the United side during the second half of last season before he was sidelined with a knee ligament injury.

The 27-year-old is set to make his second Premier League start in seven months when United face Arsenal on Saturday, after playing in the 4-2 victory against Watford on Tuesday night.

Herrera, whose side have the best defensive record in the Premier League this season, said: “When he got injured, I told him he was in the top five central defenders in the world as his play was outstanding and he was in amazing form.

“I felt so sorry for him because he got injured in what was the best moment of his career.”

CLASSIC ENCOUNTERS PT1We'll be running through some of the best meetings between these two sides over the coming hours. If you're an Arsenal fan you might want to avert your eyes for the first one.

Manchester United 8 Arsenal 2, August 28 2011

One of the Premier League's most remarkable scorelines occurred at Old Trafford in August 2011 as Arsenal suffered their worst defeat since the 19th century.

It took United 22 minutes to break the deadlock and at half-time the score was a reasonably normal 3-1. But Wayne Rooney, Nani and Park Ji-sung extended the lead to 6-2 before Carl Jenkinson's sending off deepened Arsenal's misery.

Late goals from Rooney, completing his hat-trick, and Ashley Young took the scoreline into the realms of disbelief. Arsene Wenger described the result as humiliating, adding: "It was a terrible day."

POGBA'S HOPE

Fair to say Paul Pogba isn't too heartbroken that Lacazette looks like missing out when Manchester United come to town. Here's what he had to say to MUTV:

Alex has been great and at this moment he is scoring goals and playing well for the team.

"He is a big player for them and if he is not there I would say it is good for us. I hope for us that he doesn’t play because that will help us, but I also hope he doesn’t have a bad injury."

HEAD TO HEADS

A brief look at some of the key numbers and charts ahead of kick-off today. First up that overall head-to-head, which rather reasserts that United are top dogs between these two.

And the same is the case when you look at Arsene Wenger's record against his Old Trafford counterparts. Indeed there is only one English team against whom he has a worse points per game ratio. No, not Chelsea, in fact it's Sheffield Wednesday.

As for Wenger's record against Jose Mourinho... well no surprises there. But then last time out Arsenal did get their first league win against the Special One - can they make it two out of two on Saturday?

THE BIG PREVIEW

James Olley's take on the big match focuses on Danny Welbeck, who we're expecting will be the man in the middle in Alexandre Lacazette's absence.

You'll of course remember that Louis van Gaal deemed him short of the standards set by Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney when he sold him to Arsenal for £16m in 2014 but Welbeck keeps firing back at his former side, with three goals against them since joining the Gunners.

INJURY WOES

We'll have team news from Jose Mourinho later this afternoon but we already know the biggest headache facing Arsene Wenger: Alexandre Lacazette's groin injury.

He will "certainly" miss tomorrow's game and it is expected that Danny Welbeck will take his place up front. The Longsight native has a great record against his former side. It is, though, a cruel blow for Lacazette, though one Wenger believes Arsenal can cope with.

We have offensive weapons. We have Welbeck, Giroud, Wilshere who came on.

"I will see what I do for Saturday. Ideally you wanted him there."

It's also worth bearing in mind that Alexis Sanchez has "a little hamstring problem" but you'd be surprised if he misses out.

THE BILLION POUND GAME

It is historically perhaps the most significant clash of the Premier League era - a titanic tussle between two of the three biggest teams in English footballing history. And, according to financial analysts Vysyble, tomorrow's clash is the biggest ever in the Premier League.

They've put together the turnover of Arsenal and Manchester United to bring us a figure of £1.05billion as the value of the game - enough to pay for 22 new secondary schools.

Vysyble's Roger Bell said: "This is a remarkable achievement for the Premier League in terms of reflecting the success in driving revenues via lucrative TV rights deals."

PARKING THE BUS

Arsene Wenger does not expect Jose Mourinho to park the bus at the Emirates, saying: "I don't expect anything special.

"I just expect us to be ready to recover now. Man United is a strong team and I expect us just to cope with the problems they will give us. They will attack as well. They will not only defend.

"It is a game between Arsenal and Man United at home. I just want to focus and to prepare well my team, and give my team a good chance to win the game.

"Man United is doing well at the moment, we are doing well at the moment, so it looks to be a promising game."
