Petr Cech has called on Arsenal fans to drive the Gunners on to victory in Saturday's north London derby against Tottenham.

The Gunners host Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, four points and three places off their Premier League rivals and without a win in the north London derby since March 2014.

Tottenham finished above Arsenal last season for the first time in 22 years, having been pipped to second place by Arsene Wenger's men on the final day of the previous 2015-16 campaign.

But Cech believes the energy and passion from the fans can spur Arsenal on to beat Mauricio Pochettino's men, telling Arsenal.com: "It’s always a special game, the north London derby.

"With the atmosphere and the electricity in the crowd, obviously you look forward to this game and you need to make sure you win a game like this, not only because it’s a north London derby, but because it’s a rival that challenges us for a top-four spot.

"You need to make sure in these types of games that you get all three points.

"You are always aware of that [they are rivals] and as I said, going into Saturday’s game you can feel how much it means to everybody at Arsenal and with the fans the rivalry has always been there.

"It means so much to everybody. There is a lot of passion, a lot of emotion and when you have 600,000 people with these emotions and with this passion it transfers onto the pitch."

Cech earlier denied that there had been a power shift in north London and said that Arsenal’s aim was to win the title, rather than focus all their attention on their rivals.

He added: "That’s a little bit of extra pressure on players as well and I think it’s the kind of situation where your performance usually rises because it’s that feeling as a kid - you always dreamt of being involved in big games. The atmosphere makes it more special to players as well."
