Joseph Montemurro has been announced as the new manager of Arsenal Women following the departure of Pedro Martinez Losa.

The Australian coach joins the Gunners from Melbourne City FC, who he led to an unbeaten championship winning both 2015-16 and 16-17 seasons.

Following his appointment, Montemurro told Arsenal's website: "I feel honoured and humbled to join Arsenal.

"I’m excited by the challenge and I am really looking forward to working with the talented staff and players at this great club."

Arsenal Women are fourth in the WSL 1 table, five points behind Chelsea Ladies and Manchester City Women after four games of the season.

Arsenal's Kim Little, who played for Montemurro in Australia, said: "Joe is a great manager.

"I really enjoyed working with him previously and I think that he has the qualities that we need to help us achieve our goals, and ultimately win more trophies."
