Sam Allardyce has claimed Olivier Giroud's wife was why the Arsenal striker rejected a move to Everton in the summer.

Both Allardyce's predecessor, Ronald Koeman, and Giroud himself have confirmed a summer move was in the offing, with the former going as far as claiming the striker was "in the building" only for him to pull out of a move to Merseyside.

Everton are reportedly back in the market for a striker after failing to adequately replacement Romelu Lukaku ahead of the season, but Allardyce does not expect the Arsenal man to join after a previous veto from his other half.

"I wouldn't have thought [Giroud would move] as he refused to come last time," Allardyce told reporters.

"As far as I know he doesn't want to move north of Watford, well his wife doesn't want to anyway.

"It's very important to the wives, believe you me. Normally they are the bosses."

Giroud is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.
