Antonio Conte hailed his Chelsea side for their impressive 4-0 victory at Brighton in the wake of injuries, suspensions and poor form.

Eden Hazard inspired the Blues to a fine win on the south coast to give the champions their first Premier League win of 2018.

Lightning strikes from Hazard and Willian fired Conte's side, stuttering in the top four on the back of three straight draws, into a two-goal lead in the opening six minutes.

Belgian playmaker Hazard then took his tally for the season to 11 with a fine solo goal before Victor Moses added a late fourth.

It was fine display from a Chelsea side who had scored only once in their previous four matches, and went into Saturday's match without Alvaro Morata, Pedro (both suspended) and injured goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

"It was an important performance," Conte told BBC Sport. "We started very well and scored quickly, with good combinations.

"We started with a lot of worries, for injuries and suspensions, but the response of the team was incredible. I am very happy for this. Another clean sheet.

"Today it was a really good performance of the team.

"We moved the ball quickly, we tried to find the players between the lines, to have good combinations.

"I saw important things. Now we have to continue."
