Antonio Conte says Alvaro Morata is the kind of man people want their daughters to marry, but the Chelsea coach insists the striker will have to get meaner on the pitch.

Morata has scored three League goals since joining Chelsea from Real Madrid for a club record £58m.

But his lack of physical presence has been compared ill favourably to the club's previous main frontman Diego Costa.

Conte loves Morata's gentle demeanour, yet admits that the 24-year-old needs to get a bit tougher against Premier League opponents.

The Chelsea coach explained: “This is a process for him, when I speak about a lot of room for improvement it also means this aspect, to be [aggressive].

“I like him because he’s a complete player and also he has a lot of room to improve in every situation, tactical, physical, technical aspect, he’s very committed, his behaviour is always fantastic.

"He is a very polite player, I like this. Also I like that he’s a good finisher, he feels the goal in every moment, he’s very good to understand which is the best position in the box to receive the ball, to understand where the ball is going.

"What do I mean by polite? He’s a really good guy - it means if you have a daughter you’d be open to have this type of person with your daughter, to marry your daughter."

Morata is already taken though having married Alice Campello in June and is starting to build a relationship with his new Chelsea team-mates too.

He is arguably under pressure to lead the line for the first time in his career having been a fringe player at Real Madrid, while injuries disrupted a two-year spell at Juventus between 2014-16.

Conte is convinced Morata can make the step up at Chelsea for years to come and isn't concerned that Costa, who scored 52 League goals in three seasons for Chelsea, will be a tough act for him to follow.

"I think for Alvaro it’s the right moment to have this situation, to be the striker in a great team," he said.

"Don’t forget his previous experiences at Juventus and Real Madrid - he played although not every game.

"For this reason he is at the right age to have this responsbility. He is a good leader and has a lot of room for improvement.

"Morata is 24-years-old which means you have the possibility to work with this player for 10 years."

Some pundits have questioned whether Chelsea have enough strength in depth up front should Morata suffer an injury.

Michy Batshuayi has started just 11 matches since joining from Marseille for £33.1m in the summer of 2016.

But Conte isn't alarmed and said: “For me the No 9 is very important because the No 9 is a point of reference for our play.

"I think last season Costa played well, but we have changed the striker - we have Alvaro and Batshuayi, but don’t forget I can have another option - Hazard. Last season he played No 9 twice, but I ask specific work to my strikers."
