Danny Welbeck appeared to pay tribute to Arsenal cult hero Tomas Rosicky with his celebration against West Ham on Tuesday night.

Rosicky, who spent a decade at the north London club after joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2006, announced his retirement from professional football on Wednesday, but it seems Welbeck may have known in advance.

During his time at The Emirates, the former Czech Republic international became known for his ‘sign of the horns’ celebration, which the former Manchester United striker mimicked after scoring against the Hammers in their EFL Cup win this week.

The two were teammates towards the end of Rosicky’s time at Arsenal, before he left to return to his first club, Sparta Prague, in 2016.

Speaking at a press conference to announce his retirement, the 37-year-old said: “After careful consideration, I have realised I am no longer able to fully prepare my body for what the professional football requires.

“I would like to thank Sparta for raising me, for being the first step in my career in big clubs, and for allowing me to say goodbye at the place I love the most."
