David Luiz was sent off against Arsenal for a crunching tackle on Sead Kolasinac in the dying stages of the London derby clash at Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea defender was shown a straight red card after he outpaced Alexis Sanchez on the left flank but then appeared to catch the incoming Kolasinac in the leg with three minutes of normal time remaining.

Luiz had been shown his first caution of the game when his attempted overhead kick in the 52nd minute caught Laurent Koscielny in the face.

It means that the Brazilian is set to serve a three-match ban, which will see him miss the forthcoming League Cup clash with Nottingham Forest, before Premier League’s fixtures against Stoke City (A) and Manchester City (H).

Chelsea's reduction to 10 men came with the scoreline at 0-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Shkodran Mustafi thought he had scored the winner but saw his effort ruled out for offside shortly after Danny Welbeck was forced off with an apparent groin injury sustained during a clash with Luiz.
