David Moyes confident West Ham will benefit from his struggles at Manchester United and Sunderland

David Moyes insists West Ham have a better manager having endured a tough time since leaving Everton for Manchester United.

The Scotsman departed Goodison Park to replace Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, though he was dismissed with four games of his first Premier League season left to play.

After Old Trafford, Moyes went to La Liga to take charge of Real Sociedad, where he was dismissed the day before the one-year anniversary of his appointment.

A doomed season at Sunderland last year left Moyes’ reputation, built on 11 successful years at Everton, at its lowest ebb but he feels better off with the experience of those four year.

“I’m definitely a better manager because of the experiences," he told reporters. "If you go back to United, six-year contract only 10 months but probably my record would have stood with most in one year.

“But we all understand the reasons, at United you have to win all the games and I totally accept that – I didn’t win enough games.

“I went to Spain and joined a club who were avoiding relegation and we keep them up, and we do the job, and we get to the following year and they just think they are just below where they should be. Simple.

“But there are very few people who get the jobs in those countries, so I think both of those choices were the right choices. Did they work out as well as I wanted? Not quite, but they weren’t disastrous by a long way.

"The Sunderland job was. Bad decision by me, but I’ve talked a lot about that. All I can do is to give my best here, which I will do and try to get as close to perfect as possible.”
