David Moyes is convinced his new coaching staff will bring the “desire and hunger” needed to propel West Ham back up the table.

West Ham announced on Sunday that former Hammers left-back Stuart Pearce and ex Alan Irvine would join Moyes as his assistants at the London Stadium.

The pair have been joined on the coaching staff by Billy McKinlay, who worked with Moyes as a scout at Sunderland last season.

Chris Woods rounds out the senior coaching staff. The Hammers goalkeeping coach is the only member of Slaven Bilic’s setup who was retained when the Croat departed the club last week.

David Moyes on his appointment as West Ham manager

“I’m really pleased to welcome Alan, Stuart and Billy to the club, along with Chris who was already here, and I’m looking forward to working with them all,” Moyes said.

“I wanted to get their appointments finalised as quickly as possible and it’s great that we now have a full week together before the game at Watford on Sunday.

“I’ve obviously worked with Alan, Billy and Chris previously, and I’m also looking forward to working with Stuart, who I have got to know well over the years.

“They all bring different qualities, and they all share the same desire and hunger to make a positive contribution here.

“It’s all about working hard on the training pitch and getting the results we need as quickly as possible – that’s all we are focused on.”

Moyes takes charge of his first game as West Ham manager on Sunday, a match for which he will have to do without Javier Hernandez, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury.
