England vs Germany team news: Chelsea duo Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek start at Wembley

Loftus-Cheek and Abraham - on loan from Premier League champions Chelsea at Crystal Palace and Swansea respectively - were handed surprise call-ups for the international break as Gareth Southgate handed a number of young players the chance to impress.

With a number of key players such as Harry Kane and Dele Alli missing along with further injury setbacks this week, Southgate has opted for a youthful starting XI against 2014 World Cup winners Germany.

Jordan Pickford starts in goal instead of No.1 Joe Hart with Jack Butland out with a broken finger, while Harry Maguire forms a three-man defence alongside Phil Jones and John Stones after Gary Cahill sat out training on Thursday.

Starting line-ups

England XI: Pickford; Jones, Maguire, Stones; Trippier, Livermore, Loftus-Cheek, Dier, Rose; Abraham, Vardy

Germany XI: Ter Stegen; Ginter, Hummels, Rudiger; Kimmich, Gundogan, Ozil, Halstenberg; Draxler, Werner, Sane

  • How Standard Sport predicted the line-ups earlier in the day

Tottenham duo Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose occupy the wing-back positions, with Spurs team-mate Eric Dier - Southgate's captain for the night - starts in central midfield alongside Jake Livermore and Loftus-Cheek.

The Chelsea youngster will be expected to push forward to support Abraham and Jamie Vardy in attack - though will have to be wary of the likes of Mesut Ozil and Julian Draxler breaking for Joachim Low's world champions.
